In Sickness and in Health
The Wedding Vows!
"I, _____, take thee, _____, to be my wedded wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge thee my faith."
Talking Points:
1. The Vows are REAL Not FAKE
2. Faith without Works is Dead, (Applies to Marriage too)
3. Love Looks Beyond the Big 3
Life Scenarios
For better or worse
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Ecclesiastes 4:9
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:33
For richer or poorer
But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you. Ruth 1:16-17
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mark 10:9
Sickness and in health
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24
There are three things that amaze me—no, four things that I don’t understand: how an eagle glides through the sky, how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman. Proverbs 30:18-19
Key takeaway:
God created man and woman for each other. For God so love loved the man and woman that he gave his son for our sins.
